This river rock heart mirror measures 12x11 inches. The mirror is 5 inches around. I made it with dark green and off white river rocks that I collected. To make it, I first draw the shape of the heart by hand, then cut it out and sand it so it is smooth to the touch with no rough edges. Next, I choose the rocks I'd like to use and attach them. I thought a sunrise around the mirror would look pretty cool and I loved the awesome color variations in the dark stones so I chose to use them as the sun and the white stones for the background. The colors you see in this heart are completely natural. I have applied two coats of varnish to the finished piece for the added pop of color in the stones. The mirror is wrapped in jute as well as the sides of the heart. I have also added a saw tooth hanger on the back for easy hanging and adjusting.
Whenever possible, the plywood I use for the backs of the hearts is reclaimed and given new life when I cut it into something new.
